I’m excited to be presenting a 75-minute workshop on Japanese logic puzzles at the annual VCTM conference in Roanoke tomorrow. I’ve created a permanent page at ericallanwest.com/puzzles to house my handouts and other materials related to the presentation.
If you enjoyed playing Sudoku, then you owe it to yourself to give some of the other excellent logic puzzles out there a try. Nikoli is the Japanese publisher that refined the rules for Sudoku and is credited with sparking its worldwide popularity; Nikoli publishes high-quality made-by-hand puzzles that are easy to learn yet satisfying to solve.
The Monster Book of Logic Puzzles & Sudoku is a great place to start. The book contains 14 different puzzle types and roughly 25 puzzles for each type. Nikoli also publishes iPhone apps for Sudoku, Nurikabe, Shikaku, and Akari. You can even order the famous Puzzle Communication Nikoli quarterly magazine and other puzzle books directly from Nikoli headquarters in Japan!
